I&M Announces Transmission Infrastructure Improvements in East Central Indiana

July 28, 2014

July 24, 2014

Fort Wayne, IN – Indiana Michigan Power (I&M) is planning a $9 million transmission infrastructure improvement project from south Marion to northern Madison County.

I&M will upgrade about 15 miles of existing 34.5 kV line to a more efficient and reliable 69 kV line. As part of the project, new steel structures will replace old wood structures.

Most of the line work will occur within existing right of way between the Deer Creek substation in Marion to just north of Indiana 28. I&M will also upgrade equipment at the Deer Creek substation south of Marion.

These improvements will strengthen the aging electric infrastructure of the area and ensure safe, reliable power for homes and businesses. These improvements are vital not only to current customers but to support the development of the area’s economy.

While most of the work will take place within existing easements owned by the company, some easements will require updating or supplementing. I&M and its contractors work closely with land owners to plan placement of lines and establish fair prices for use of the properties.

I&M expects to begin construction in spring 2015 and complete by fall 2016. For more information about the Deer Creek to South Summitville project, see www.IndianaMichiganPower.com/DeerCreek.
