CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (July 31, 2020) – AEP Texas has reached the most difficult phase of the Hurricane Hanna restoration effort where flooding, standing water and muddy conditions make the work especially difficult and challenging. As the effort nears completion, however, AEP Texas crews have restored electric service to more than 98 percent of all customers in the Rio Grande Valley who were affected by Hurricane Hanna.

Specialized track equipment and bulldozers are being used to navigate through flooded terrain in order to rebuild downed power lines and restore power.

Customers who are still without power should call the AEP Texas Customer Solutions Center at (877) 373-4858 to determine if their home or facility is able to receive power, or to learn if repairs are required before electric service can be reconnected.

Outages
As of 6 a.m. Friday, the number of outages in the Rio Grande Valley totaled approximately 2,825, down from 152,400 in the RGV on Sunday morning.

The largest concentration of customer outages remains in the San Benito area with 885 customer outages with an ETR of Friday, July 31, at 9 p.m.

All AEP Texas crews and mutual assistance personnel who traveled to the impacted areas to assist in restoration are following strict COVID-19 safety guidelines, which include wearing a face mask and practicing social distancing. We ask that customers not approach crews for any reason as they are working on the restoration of service, especially due to enhanced COVID-19 safety guidelines.
