AEP Texas Restoration in West Texas Update: Noon, 1-1-2021

January 1, 2021

AEP Texas continued restoration of power to customers who lost service due to the winter storm that hit the west Texas areas of its service territory.  Although the number of outages was not as significant as expected, crews are addressing branches that fell over power lines and melting snow and ice.

As of noon, approximately 1,780 Abilene District customers remained without power.  This includes 650 Abilene residents and 1,100 residents in the Cisco area, which includes Cross Plains, Rising Star and Putnam.  Approximately 105 San Angelo District customers were without power; however, this number was expected to increase when crews initiate an outage that will impact Eldorado residents.  That outage, which could last several hours, will allow crews to safely repair a substation switch damaged by the storm.

AEP Texas projects that power will be restored to most residents in the immediate Abilene area by this evening and to residents in the Cisco, Cross Plains and Rising Star areas by Saturday night.  After first addressing any remaining hazards from downed lines and outages affecting large groups of customers, crews will then begin work on individual outages.
