AEP Texas Restoration in West Texas Update:  9 p.m., 1-1-2021

January 1, 2021

As of 9 p.m., the AEP Texas Restoration Team had reduced the number of outages in the Abilene District to approximately 200, as compared to the 2,200 peak outages at 6 a.m. this morning.  Of the 200 remaining outages, 130 were located in Tuscola and 30 were in the Cross Plains area. The remainder was situated in other parts of the Abilene District.

The San Angelo District was not hit as hard as the Abilene District.  As of 9 p.m., crews had reduced the number of outages in the San Angelo District to 20 with about 10 in the Ozona area and the other 10 located throughout the Menard area. Most of today’s restoration effort focused on the Eldorado area.

“Our crews made a lot of progress today,” said Greg Blair, AEP Texas manager of External Affairs and Customer Service.  “They slogged their way slog through slush created by melting ice and snow, as a tremendous amount of branches pushed into our power lines.  We addressed most of the outages affecting large groups of customers, and we will concentrate on the outages affecting smaller groups of customers on Saturday.  We will continue our restoration efforts until all customers whose facilities can take power are restored.”
