Meter Installation & Connection
AEP Texas is responsible for installing and connecting meters in our service territory. There are three types of installations and connections. For instructions on how to request this service, please choose the option that meets your needs:
Applying for temporary or new permanent meter installation
Step One. You will need to apply for a new Electric Service ID number “ESI ID’.” You can apply online or call AEP Texas at 1-877-373-4858.
It is critical that an accurate address, contact name and phone number be provided. A nearby meter number can aid this process. If distribution lines are not available, ask to have a service technician meet with you on site.
For contractors who need electrical service during construction.
For permanent electric service to a new home.
For permanent electric service to a new facility or business
Step Two. Next, call a Retail Electric
Provider (REP) of your choice and request a meter installation for Temporary
Service. You should request the install date to coincide with the completion
date of the city or county electrical inspection. Remember to provide your ESI
ID number, correct address, city and zip coder.
Step Three. AEP will schedule the work
to be performed after receiving an order from the REP and receiving an
electrical permit. We will make every effort to perform the work within 6
business days of the requested date. If distribution lines are not available,
ask to have a service technician meet with you on site.
Step Four. Once an order is created with AEP Texas, you can track new meter installations using our meter install order tracking system.

existing meter. Remember to provide your ESI ID number, correct address, city

Step Two. AEP will schedule the work to
be performed after receiving an order from your REP and receiving the
electrical permit. We will make every effort to perform the work by the
requested date.
