Omar G. Lopez has been named Director of Corporate Communications, effective January 7, according to AEP Texas President and Chief Operating Officer Judith Talavera.
Lopez fills the position left vacant by Frank Espinoza who retires on December 30.
He will be responsible for all internal and external communications activities for AEP Texas throughout the company’s service territory.
Lopez has more than 14 years of service with the company and has over 20 years of media and community relations experience. He also has extensive community involvement experience in the Corpus Christi business community where he has served on numerous boards which include K Space Contemporary, Workforce Solutions of the Coastal Bend, and Corpus Christi Metro Ministries.
Previously, he served as Manager of Communications where he was responsible for the development and management of internal and external communication activities, media relations, and social media activity.
“Omar brings vast knowledge and experience to this leadership role on our corporate communications team,” said Talavera. “He knows our AEP Texas employees, company operations, and the communities we serve. His understanding of our company and its mission will help us move our strategic vision forward and continue to meet our customer’s evolving needs.”
Lopez holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi and a Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion in the Workplace certificate from the University of South Florida. He is a graduate of the inaugural class of Equality Fellows, an Equality Texas leadership development program and is a graduate of Leadership Corpus Christi Class 34.
