AEP Texas crews have restored power to 16,000 of the 17,000 customers left without power by the storms that swept through the Abilene District late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning. As of 8 p.m. on Friday, 960 customers remained without power: approximately 480 in Abilene, 200 in Hamlin and 20 in Matador.
AEP Texas now projects that service will be restored to all homes and facilities that can take power by 10 p.m. on Saturday. Extremely dense tree damage slowed today’s anticipated progress, particularly in the Abilene area. Muddy conditions in other areas hindered access to damaged utility poles and downed power lines.
“Our crews are working as quickly as safely possible and have made significant progress over the past two days,” said AEP Texas Manager of Distribution System Nickie Plaisance. “We are committed to completion of this restoration effort. We appreciate the support and patience shown by our customers.”
