AEP Texas Responds to Outages Across South Texas

January 21, 2025

Crews are responding to outages across south Texas Tuesday morning after an arctic front brought precipitation and the coldest temperatures of the season to the AEP Texas service territory.

At 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, approximately 15,900 customers are without power, down from a peak of 30,000 outages early Tuesday morning.

The largest groups of customer outages are in the following locations:

  • Port Aransas – 5,700
  • Hebbronville – 1,800
  • Palmview – 3,900

All AEP Texas personnel will continue to respond to outages as they occur. Crews continue to make progress restoring electric service to all areas.

Customers are urged to remember the following safety messages as this weather continues over the next 48 hours:

  • All downed power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Keep children and pets inside during and after the storm. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power line.
  • If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Customers on life support systems or other medical equipment that rely on electricity should have a solid backup plan for areas where prolonged outages may occur.

Visit AEPTexas.com and follow AEP Texas on social media for the latest updates about restoration conditions in your area.
