COLUMBUS, Ohio, Sept. 23, 2008 – For the fourth time in seven years, American Electric Power (NYSE: AEP) has been named one of the “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” by Working Mother magazine, a national publication targeting career-committed mothers.

AEP is the only central Ohio-based company and the only electric utility on the list, which appears in the magazine’s October edition.

“We’re thrilled to be honored by Working Mother again,” said Michael G. Morris, AEP chairman, president and chief executive officer. “It is clear that our programs and policies demonstrate AEP’s commitment to helping employees balance their personal lives and work lives.”

The companies honored by Working Mother were chosen based on a 500-question survey addressing work schedule flexibility, work leave policies, child care, compensation and other work/life issues.

Honorees will be formally recognized during the annual Working Mother 100 Best Companies Work/Life Congress in New York Oct. 28-30.

AEP received the same recognition in 2007, 2004 and 2002. Working Mother also has selected AEP as one of the best companies for multicultural women the past three years.
