AEP Texas crews actively restore power to customers affected by Tropical Storm Beta

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (September 22, 2020) – AEP Texas crews are actively restoring power to customers without electrical service in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Beta.

At 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, approximately 270 customers are without power throughout Victoria, El Campo, Port Lavaca and the surrounding areas. The storm weakened early Tuesday.

"The rain associated with this storm will continue for the next few days as it stalls over Texas," said Jeff Stracener, AEP Texas vice president of Distribution Region Operations. "Our crews will continue to restore service to those impacted by the storm and for any customers who experience outages associated with this severe weather in the coming days.” 

Safety

  • All power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences or standing water. Please keep children and pets inside during and after the storm. Report downed power lines by calling (866) 223-8508.

  • All AEP Texas crews are following strict COVID-19 safety guidelines, which include wearing a mask and practicing physical and social distancing.

  • Customers should not approach crews for any reason, especially due to enhanced COVID-19 safety guidelines.
