Crews made significant progress restoring electric service to customers in south Texas after scattered transmission outages left customers without power early Tuesday.
At 10:45 p.m. Tuesday, all Palmview outages have been restored. Approximately 80 customers remain without power in the Hebbronville area.
In Port Aransas, equipment failure Tuesday evening occurred while restoring customers. Approximately 3,000 customers remain without power.
AEP Texas personnel will continue working through the evening until outages are restored in all areas.
AEP Texas asks customers who are still experiencing a power outage to consider turning off major appliances and lowering the thermostat. When circuits are re-energized from a cold start, also known as a cold load start, a smaller overall load helps prevent further outages.
Customers are urged to remember the following safety messages as Wednesday morning temperatures are expected to be the coldest of the week:
- All downed power lines should be considered energized and dangerous. Do not touch anything in contact with the line, such as trees, fences, or puddles of water. Stay at least 10 feet away from any downed power line.
- If you plan to use a portable generator, always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Customers on life support systems or other medical equipment that rely on electricity should have a solid backup plan for areas where prolonged outages may occur.
